Queen of Yin, Mel McLaughlin, shares her five tips for staying grounded when life around us feels a little shaky and uncertain.
#1 Massage your soles
In Chinese medicine, the soles are the origin point of the kidney channel, so the analogy is that this allows us to ‘drop anchor’ in any stormy seas.
#2 Walk barefoot outside
Take to the beach or the grass and feel your feet in nature. This enables your nervous system to slow down and experience the present moment.
#3 Breathe with your belly
Place hand to belly and follow your breath through 10 inhales and exhales. Feel your shoulders drop and your jaw relax as you get out of your head, and into your body.
#4 Shake it out
Distribute Qi (life force) to give your nervous system a chance to ‘discharge’ any funky energy, and enable new vibrant energy to circulate and balance your being.
#5 Epsom salt bath
If that all sounds like too much effort, simply soak your feet in a warm Epsom Salt foot bath. Notice all that arises during 10 minutes of mindful relaxation.
